Dr. Elie Adib Salem is the President of the famous Balamand University.
Dr. Salem was professor of political science at the American University of Beirut (AUB) and chair of the department (1962-74) and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (1974-82) at AUB.
Dr. Salem later became Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs during Amin Gemayel's presidency (1982-1988).

Dr. Salem and his wife Phyllis, who died recently, have four children: 2 daughters Lisa and Nina, 2 sons Adib and Paul. Nina Salem Shabb is now associate professor of pathology and laboratory medicine in the Faculty of Medicine of the AUB. Paul Salem recently resigned as associate professor in the Department of Political Studies and Public Administration.
Dr. Elie Salem wrote several books including: Modernization Without Revolution: Lebanon's Experience (Indiana University Press; June 1973) and Violence and Diplomacy in Lebanon: The Troubled Years, 1982-1988 (B Tauris & Co Ltd; January 1995).
